Our Mission
The Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem is known as the "Hospital with a Heart" for its century-long reputation for treating patients rather than just their illnesses, for an extra dimension of caring.
The Canadian Shaare Zedek Hospital Foundation allows supporters to connect to a meaningful cause in Israel and the good work that is being done in the Hospital on a larger scale, to the ideologies it represents: compassion for all human life, no matter the race, religion or political views.
The Canadian Shaare Zedek Hospital Foundation
What started as an effort to raise $2 million for the construction of a Toronto, Ontario Pavilion in the new Medical Center by a few of the largest industrialists in the Toronto Jewish Community, soon grew into a national organization with offices in Montreal, Winnipeg and Toronto.
Though the Foundation has centralized its fundraising efforts in the Toronto office, the organization reaches individuals across the country with events and specific fundraising programs.

Serving the needs of the residents of Jerusalem and Israel, Shaare Zedek is the city's only major, centrally located hospital, committed to the provision of top-level medical care through a highly compassionate and personalized approach. Named after the inspiring biblical term "Gates of Righteousness," Shaare Zedek has responded to the needs of Jerusalem’s uniquely diverse population from its very first day of operation, treating patients of every race, religion and nationality.
The 500-bed facility admits more than 50,000 in-patients a year in its thirty departments. More than 150,000 people are treated in the out-patient clinics, a comprehensive entity including more than 70 departments and units.
Shaare Zedek receives no financial support from the Israeli government for development. It relies on the generosity of friends around the world in order to fund and carry out research, upgrade vital equipment and continuously maintain and further expand its facilities.
