The Next 60 Years
An Evening With James Carville
On December 2, 2008 Shaare Zedek supporters gathered together at the Park Hyatt Toronto to celebrate "The Next 60 Years." This event featured Master of Ceremonies the Honorable Bob Rae, Member of Parliament for Toronto Centre, who along with his wife has been an active supporter of Shaare Zedek, and James Carville, U.S. Political commentator on CNN and foreign campaign manager for President Bill Clinton. As well, Professor Jonathan Halevy, M.D, Director General of Shaare Zedek Medical Center, provided the audience with an update on the current state of affairs at the hospital along with exciting new projects that are in the works at the hospital, primarily funded by the Medical Center's friends throughout the world.
In his very animated speech, Mr. Carville discussed the makeup of President Elect Barak Obama's cabinet and how he anticipated this new administration would function, particularly in regards to the economy and U. S. foreign policy with a focus on Israel, the Middle East and Global Terrorism.
"In this economic environment, seeing so many people support Shaare Zedek enforces to me the importance of the good work done by the hospital. This event allowed us to connect in a meaningful way with the hospital while providing an interesting and memorable evening. The format of our event allows us to have a point of distinction in the market and we look forward to running a series of events similar to this one," said Jonathan Solursh, President of The Canadian Shaare Zedek Hospital Foundation Board of Directors. Event Chair Paul Weinberg added, "The evening was a success. We received support from many of our long-time contributors but also many new supporters. We were able to present a program that was informative and highly relevant for today. The attendees left the event impressed by Mr. Carville and Mr. Rae and with a better understanding of the contribution that Shaare Zedek makes to Jerusalem, to Israel and the impact that is felt globally. We feel very fortunate to have such a supportive base in Toronto."
Special thanks to our event sponsors Emery Investments and Carol & Stephen Handelman, our event committee and everyone else who helped make this day a success. Funds raised from this event went towards the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.
