Several years ago, Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong and Prime Minister Netanyahu witnessed the signing of plans for the Ministry of Health of China and Israel to cooperate. Recently, Shaare Zedek Medical Center was selected as one of two hospitals in Israel to sign a memorandum of understanding with Hunan Cancer Hospital to be part of this cooperative agreement with China.

The President of Hunan Cancer Hospital, Dr. Liu Xiangguo, led a delegation which visited Israel and ultimately signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the Director General of Shaare Zedek, Prof. Jonathan Halevy, intended to develop cooperation in the field of comprehensive cancer treatment, technology introduction, research and personnel training.

The delegation was especially impressed by Shaare Zedek’s comprehensive treatment and palliative care of cancer based on the thirteen standards of European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) which were developed by Prof. Nathan Cherny the Director of our Department of Cancer Pain and Palliative Medicine Unit in our Oncology Institute.
