Mazel tov on the 10th anniversary of the Glaubach Department of Pediatric Emergency Medicine!
Over the past ten years, the Pediatric Emergency Department has grown significantly both in terms of the number of patients seen annually as well as the range of conditions treated. Shaare Zedek is very proud that the Glaubach Pediatric Emergency Department, under the leadership of Dr. Matti Ehrlichman, has treated tens of thousands of young patients who came to the emergency room seeking to be helped with bronchiolitis, burns, fever of unknown origin, fever in oncology patients, gastroenteritis, head injuries, minor traumas- such as broken bones, neonatal septic work-ups, poisonings, pneumonia, sedations and suturing.
During the past 10 years, the number of visits to pediatric emergency rooms in Israel increased by a bit more than 5% while the number of patients treated in the Glaubach Pediatric Emergency Department increased by 3-fold. During the same time period, the number of hospitalizations of patients from our pediatric ER deceased by over 30% . Dr. Erlichman explains, “The first year we started treating patients in this emergency room, we saw roughly 11,000 patients. The careful planning and continued efforts to improve our processes and services for patients enabled us to grow and to help more children from Jerusalem and the surrounding area. This past year, just ten years since the Glaubach Pediatric Emergency Department opened, we treated over 31,550 children some of whom presented complex diagnoses that thanks to our cutting edge medical equipment and highly trained staff we were able to treat. As long as there is a need for children to receive emergency medical attention, we strive to provide the best care possible. The generosity and ongoing close relationship with the Glaubach’s have helped in the treatment of each of our young patients and the staff and the people of Jerusalem are very appreciative.”
