An Evening Honouring Rabbi Aaron Flanzraich

This week, The Canadian Shaare Zedek Hospital Foundation hosted an evening honouring Rabbi Aaron Flanzraich on receiving the Kurt and Edith Rothschild Humanitarian Award.

We would like to sincerely thank our hosts, Debbie and Warren Kimel, for their warm hospitality and incredible generosity in opening their home to us for this fabulous event.

We were so lucky to have Senior Pediatrician in Shaare Zedek’s Neuropediatric Unit, Dr. Asael Lubotzky, as our Guest Speaker, sharing his incredible story of experiencing unimaginable pain while serving in the IDF during the Second Lebanon War, and overcoming this trauma to become the Doctor, Author, husband, father, and admirable individual he is today. His story is truly awe-inspiring, and we are all so proud to have him as part of our Shaare Zedek family.

It was wonderful to see our community come together to support The Huberfeld Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Shaare Zedek Medical Center. Shaare Zedek’s NICU is a Centre of Excellence, providing state-of-the-art care. Approximately, five percent of the 22,000 babies born at Shaare Zedek each year need intensive medical supervision, and treatment provided by the NICU, and with 70 beds, it’s the largest facility of its kind in Israel.

Thank you to our loyal donors, because of you we raised over $426,000 for the NICU and Maternity Wards at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. We extend our appreciation to our evening co-chairs, Michael Bregman and David Cynamon. 100% of the proceeds from this event go towards the purchasing five GE Venue R2 Ultrasound Machines, and 40 ePM Serises Compact Patient Monitors—vital equipment that will ensure our tiniest, most fragile patients, continue to be cared for in the best way, everyday, at Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

Upon receiving his award, Rabbi Aaron shared some words of wisdom, expressing that “there are countless generations of Jews that came before you, who despite the great temptations, and every reasonable reason to give up, and to give up on their identity, they did not.” To support Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, means supporting others, whether you know them personally or not, we all have the power and ability to make a difference. Rabbi Flanzraich uses his heart to lead our community in an inspiring display of faith, wisdom, and compassion. He embodies the essence of Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem—also known as the Hospital With A Heart—and is so deserving of the prestigious Kurt and Edith Rothschild Humanitarian Award.

With your generosity, we can continue to do what we do best: Save lives, deliver lives, and change lives, every single day.
