This week, during the annual Emergency Medical Teams Global Meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO), the Israel Defense Forces‘s field hospital, under the command of Dr. Ofer Merin, the Deputy Director General and Director of Trauma Services at Shaare Zedek, was recognized as the first and only “Type 3” field hospital.
The Israeli Defense Forces Field Hospital is run by Medical Corps doctors, soldiers, and reservists, and mobilizes in order to provide medical care in disaster sites around the world such as Haiti, Nepal, Philippines and the Syrian border. Dr Merin explained that the IDF field hospital has the same capabilities as an advanced, permanent hospital and can be set up in under 12 hours with 200 personnel and 100 metric tons of equipment.
We would like to congratulate Dr. Ofer Merin, a Lieutenant Colonel (Res), Dr. Avi Alpert, who is the head of the ER in the field hospital (and a Emergency Medicine Specialist at Shaare Zedek) and Deganit Kobliner, head Nurse of the field hospital ER (and a nurse in the our Emergency Medicine Department) and Dr. Eran Regev a mouth and jaw specialist (Head of our Maxillofacial Surgery Unit).
