An Israeli surgeon developed a special treatment for facial scars using fat from a patient’s body that is injected into a scar, a procedure that is then followed by a series of laser treatments. The result: The scar is completely gone, even if it existed for many years.
Thousands of Israelis who suffered from acne are left with scarring on their face. In addition, there are others who suffer from scars due to cuts, burns and other injuries. A new treatment, developed in Israel, promises to erase the scars and give a patient’s skin a new, smooth look.
Facial scars are an aesthetic issue that hurts self-image and impacts one’s life on a daily basis. Acne, cuts and burns can cause an infection and create mass germs on the skin. As a result, the skin loses its elasticity and creates marks that look like a scar. The only treatment that was previously available was a treatment with laser or special oils, but these approaches are limited and don’t produce the same results.
The new treatment was developed by Dr. Yoav Gronovich, a senior plastic surgeon at Shaare Zedek Medical Center. His method consists of extracting fat from a patient’s body and then injecting it directly into a scar.
Following the injection, there are 5 other laser treatments on the skin’s surface to allow the injection to settle into the patient’s face.
“The combination of fat and laser creates a synergistic effect,” explains Dr. Gronovich, “each one of them affects the scar healing process in a different way and the result is very impressive. We created a new protocol that has never been described in medicine before.”
