Shaare Zedek Medical Center has opened a clinic focused on the diagnosis and treatment of dry eyes under the leadership of Dr. David Tzadok, the Head of our Ophthalmology Department.
15% of the populations suffer from dry eyes and it is important to diagnose dry eye syndrome as soon as possible to avoid exacerbating dehydration symptoms and the onset of chronic inflammation. Today, there are an array of methods for diagnosing dry eyes.
Dry eye syndrome (DES), is also known as keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS). Other symptoms include irritation, redness, itchiness, a feeling like one has “sand” in their eyes, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, increased tear secretion,… The symptoms can range from mild and occasional to severe and continuous.
Dr. Tzadok explains, “Dry eye treatments used to replace the fluids lost via tears – today, the modern treatments, focus on the inflammations which have been identified as part of the dry eye syndrome. The treatments are aimed at improving the quantity and quality of the tear lipids.”
