Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center has announced the appointment of Professor Nir Peled as the new head of the hospital’s comprehensive cancer treatment and research program. The appointment comes amidst rapid development in the Oncology Institute including the construction of the new Radiotherapy Institute that will establish the hospital as a local and national leader in cancer care.
Professor Peled is an expert in internal medicine, pulmonology and oncology and widely recognized as one of the leading oncologists in Israel today. He previously established the Lung Cancer Unit at Beilinson Medical Center and was the Director of Oncology at Soroka Medical Center. He also pursued a fellowship in the study of thoracic tumors in Colorado.
A graduate of the IDF’s Atuda program (an academic track within military service), he served in the paratroop corps and as a combat physician in the prestigious Shayetet 13 special forces unit. He is a fully accredited professor and was the first Israeli physician selected to serve on the Board of Directors of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer and serves the Director of the Committee for Early Diagnosis. He also served as the Head of the European Respiratory Society Thoracic Oncology Assembly.
He is married and a father of three and lives in the town of Hod Hasharon. An accomplished researcher, he has been part of more than twenty clinical studies that have actively contributed to the advancement of cancer care.

The new Center will provide a comprehensive response to the treatment of the wide array of cancers and all relevant treatments, including with the new Radiotherapy Institute alongside an innovative research center and focus on palliative care. The addition of Professor Peled alongside numerous other leading experts is sure to place Shaare Zedek on the forefront of oncological care.”
Professor Peled welcomed the appointment saying, “The cancer care division at Shaare Zedek is a multi-disciplinary service that encompasses all the aspects of oncological care. Dr. Laila Roisman was also appointed to the Oncology Institute’s Research Division where she will oversee studies advancing technological and therapeutic developments in cancer care. Dr. Roisman comes with extensive research and development experience and established the the Structural Neurobiology Unit at the University of Melbourne, Australia. Prior to coming to Shaare Zedek, she served management roles in the research programs at Beilinson Medical Center and Soroka Medical Center.
