The Shaare Zedek Medical Center is the first medical center in Israel to use a new aortic valve from Switzerland called, Symetis Acurate neo. The Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) procedure repairs the aortic valve without removing the old, damaged valve. The design of the valve enables the doctor to position the valve with maximum accuracy.
Thousands of catheterization are performed at Shaare Zedek each year and Shaare Zedek is viewed as a leader in this field in Israel. The first valve to be used in the catheterization lab instead of open heart surgery was performed at Shaare Zedek.
Dr. Yaron Almagor, the Director of the Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Catheterization Lab shared, “So far, we have used the new valve transplantation in 3 patients whose medical condition was complex and required a transplant with higher accuracy than typically needed. Since the new valve allows for continued blood flow during the procedure, this makes the method safer and more accurate. The three patients who underwent the procedure were released from the hospital in good condition.”
