Shaare Zedek opens its Heart Disease Rehabilitation and Prevention Institute new and improved…

Shaare Zedek Medical Center’s Heart Disease Rehabilitation and Prevention Institute has moved to the Yad Sarah building and offers new and advanced equipment.

When treating people with heart conditions, it is very important to help them to try and go back to everyday life while also preventing any future heart issues. The institute offer multidisciplinary guidance and monitoring by cardiologists with expertise in rehabilitation, knowledgeable nurses, physiologists and trainers who develop specialized exercise programs. The institute also offers the opportunity to receive guidance from nutritionists as well as pyschosocial therapists.

The institute which is the largest of its kind in Jerusalem, offers a rehabilitation program for patients with coronary disease and is designed for patients who have undergone a cardiac arrest, bypass or angiography surgery, therapeutic catheterization, aorta enlargement or for those who have a pacemaker.

Dr. Jacob Klein, a senior cardiologist, the head of the institute and the head of the Israel Heart Society – האיגוד הקרדיולוגי בישראל Sub-Committee on Cardiac Rehabilitation explains, “Naturally, a patient who experienced a cardiac event, experienced a shock. They may have less confidence in themselves, they may have doubts and they also may not be sure what they are allowed to do and what they cannot do. And, of course there is the actual damage to the heart. Cardiac rehabilitation is “a gym”, this multidisciplinary program provides tools for heart patients to cope with the changes and helps the patient reach their optimal level of functioning in all spheres of life and prevent the next event… Many studies have shown that participation in cardiac rehabilitation programs significantly reduces mortality, hospitalizations and repeat visits to emergency rooms as well as repeat cardiac events and improves the patient’s ability to function both physically and mentally.”

The institute is located in the Yad Sarah building at 124 Rechov Herzl on the 4rth floor. It is open from 7:00-20:00 and is accessible by public transportation (both buses and the train) and there is parking in the area.
