On Wednesday, an exciting ceremony took place at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, where a special postage stamp—available through Israel Post—was launched in honour of the hospital celebrating its 120th Anniversary this year.
“We’re proud to present this stamp marking the 120th anniversary of the establishment of Shaare Zedek. This hospital responds to the needs of the city’s diverse populations and more than ever before it is critical that we express our gratitude to the medical teams for all they have done in addressing the many effects of this pandemic. I hope this stamp will help spread the message of Shaare Zedek throughout the world and highlight the good of our country,” remarked Israel Post’s Director of Philatelic Services, Elhanan Shapira, in his formal address at the ceremony.
Shaare Zedek’s customized tribute postage stamp was designed by Israeli-French artist, Meir Eshel. The stamp artwork is divided into different parts, showing the hospital building, and medical staff, with the focus on honouring the past, celebrating the present, and looking towards the future. The images displayed on the stamp reinforce Shaare Zedek’s vision, in that although the hospital has experienced various changes over the last 120 years, the mission and dedication has, and continues to, remain the same, by providing compassionate care and medical excellence to all patients, with admirable professionalism, understanding, and emotion, which has played a critical role in the development of modern medicine in Jerusalem and Israel.
The stamp launch ceremony was also attended by Shaare Zedek’s CEO, Professor Ofer Merin who said, “we take great pride that after 120 years we continue to preserve the values and spirit of the original founders of our hospital where everyone who comes to us for care is treated with compassion and advanced medicine. I thank the stamp authority and the Israel Postal service for providing us with this beautiful symbol that allows us and future generations to reflect on that remarkable history.”
We are so inspired by this beautiful tribute honouring the Shaare Zedek Medical Center. The stamp can be purchased via Israel Postal Service at https://services.israelpost.co.il/mal…/ProdsbyCode/1556
