The past couple of months have been very different for all of us. The children were home from school for weeks and now, we all still need to be careful. Many children and teens will be spending the summer hanging out with friends and doing things here and there without much structure.
While going to sleep late and waking up late may seem completely harmless, Dr. Floris Levi- Khademi, Director of our Pediatric Day Hospital, warns, “There are certain hormones in the body which are influenced by light and darkness and being awake or asleep. Altering sleep cycles can negatively influence the release of these hormones which has been linked to several medical conditions including obesity, cancer, cardiovascular illnesses, ….Kids do not need to wake up at 7 in the morning but noon may be a bit late.
Have a wonderful, safe and healthy summer!”
