Do you believe in miracles?
When Sara was just six months old, she was paralyzed in her extremities due to a rare blood clot and was rushed into surgery at Shaare Zedek.
Dr. Yair Barzilay, Head of the Spine Unit explained, “There was a glimmer of hope, but we did not really believe that one day this little girl would walk. Such a clot is very rare in a child so young, I am not sure that I will ever again see such a case”. The surgery was a success and Sara soon started to wiggle her fingers and her arms but she did not move her legs. Even though it took a while, she eventually started to move her legs as well!
Dr. Barzilay shared, “This is kind of miracle. When I received the video [of the girl walking], tears were streaming down my face, tears of happiness.” Now, two years after Sara first came to Shaare Zedek, Sara does not just walk, she rides a bike. She is helped by a special walker and her parents are hopeful that she will continue to improve”. Sara, we hope you continue to progress with every stride you make.
