In 1998, Tamara Baker was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder that was relatively unknown at the time. As a result, she was sent from one specialist to another. As she waited for these doctors, she often encountered young children getting chemotherapy treatment and she was very sad to see their discomfort and suffering.
Tamara really wanted to help. She explained, “All of these children are our children and I wanted to cover these ill children with love. I started finding women who would crochet and knit blankets to give these young patients. People were very willing to help. One of my doctors donated money to support buying the yarn.”
Today, We Care Blankets bring blankets and other knitted and crocheted items to over twenty five hospitals across the US, hospices and to Shaare Zedek Medical Center
in Jerusalem.
Thank you to all of the members of We Care Blankets for sharing your warmth and caring with our patients.
