Last week staff at Shaare Zedek Medical Center undertook a significant emergency response drill to assess the hospital’s readiness for a mass casualty incident (MCI). The simulation involved a missile strike on a residential tower in Jerusalem, resulting in over 100 patients being rushed to the hospital.
Coordinated by the Disaster and Emergency Preparedness Unit, alongside first responders, the exercise aimed to evaluate the hospital’s capacity to admit, triage, and treat a large influx of patients with diverse injuries.
Prof. Ofer Merin, Shaare Zedek’s Director General and an expert in disaster management, stressed the importance of being prepared for unforeseen emergencies, especially given the current security situation. Hundreds of hospital staff from various departments participated, with the exercise providing valuable insights for future enhancements in emergency preparedness.
Sarah Goldberg, Deputy Director General for Nursing and Disaster and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator, highlighted the drill’s significance in identifying areas for improvement and strengthening the hospital’s readiness for various scenarios to allow us to save, deliver, and change lives!
