A New Year Calls for a Celebration!
The Canadian Shaare Zedek Hospital Foundation marked the end of 2021 with an exciting tribute honouring two very important individuals—Kurt and Edith Rothschild.
In a joyous ceremony that took place on December 31st, the sixth floor of the Shaare Zedek Medical Centre in Jerusalem was officially renamed to The Kurt and Edith Rothschild Floor, on the occasion of their milestone 100th birthdays. Family, friends, and hospital officials gathered to honour Kurt and Edith Rothschild with sweet treats, video presentations, and a plaque reveal. This tribute was made possible through The Canadian Shaare Zedek Hospital Foundation’s Kurt and Edith Rothschild 100th Birthday Campaign co-chaired by Jack Feintuch & David Reichmann. We chose to honour the exceptional work of the Rothschild’s, who are from Canada, and are long-time friends and champions of the Canadian Shaare Zedek Hospital Foundation.
Thanks to the generosity of the Schwartz Family, every dollar donated to the campaign was matched up to 1 million dollars. The Canadian Shaare Zedek Hospital Foundation raised over 2 million dollars through the campaign, enabling the purchase of an ExacTrac X-Ray Monitoring device, predominantly used for the imaging of pre-radiotherapy treatment. The Kurt and Edith Rothschild Floor contains the Pediatric Emergency Department, which provides lifesaving treatment to thousands of children, and also houses the Department of Geriatrics—Shaare Zedek Medical Centre is the first hospital in Jerusalem to operate an entire department for this demographic.
Since Kurt first joined Shaare Zedek Hospital Foundation’s International Board of Directors in 1976, the Rothschild’s have shown tremendous care and dedication to the organization. Their unwavering support has enabled the Shaare Zedek Medical Centre in Jerusalem to provide healthcare services to so many, making the Kurt and Edith Rothschild Floor a truly fitting dedication for these two outstanding champions.
