Last week, Shaare Zedek became the first hospital in the world to perform three mitral valve replacement procedures in one day via catheterization using the Tendyne valve system manufactured by Abbott Labaratories. A fourth procedure is already being planned for tomorrow.
The procedure was performed for the first time in Israel just this week. The procedure provides a medical response for patients experiencing leakages in the mitral valve of the heart who until now had no effective options other than invasive open-chest procedures that comes with significant risks and extensive recovery times. This new approach presents many new options for all types of patients with complex cardiac disease.
