This week, Shaare Zedek Medical Center’s Jesselson Integrated Heart Center is welcoming a group of internationally leading cardiologists from the Mayo Clinic in the US to collaborate in performing a variety of cardiac procedures. The team partnered to address five particularly complex cases, leading to excellent results for the patients.
The group also held a series of meetings to plan for continued collaboration between the two leading hospital systems. Representing the Mayo Clinic, were Dr. Paul Friedman, an expert in Cardiac Arrythmias and Chair of the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, New York, Dr. Chet Rihal, a Senior Cardiologist and member of the Board of Directors at the Clinic, and Dr. Amir Lerman, a Catheterization Specialist and Researcher, also based in Rochester.
Among the procedures that the physicians collaborated on was an innovative approach to interventional cardiology, which was developed in part by Dr. Danny Dvir, Director of Shaare Zedek’s Catheterization Unit. The approach, which is not yet recognized for widespread use in the US, earned the admiration of the international team.
Prof. Michael Glikson, Director of Shaare Zedek’s Jesselson Integrated Heart Center thanked his colleagues for their visit saying, “our Center stands out for embracing these types of international partnerships, and we very much value the chance to host leading experts to help further advance the complex approaches we are developing here in Israel. Through these collaborations, we’re able to share information, and we learn new approaches and techniques in ways that will directly benefit our patients and indeed the medical community around the world. We look forward to continuing to work together.”
