There is a well-known song in honor of Shavuot,
“סַלֵּינוּ עַל כְּתֵפֵינוּ,
רָאשֵׁינוּ עֲטוּרִים
מִקְּצוֹת הָאָרֶץ בָּאנוּ,
הֵבֵאנוּ בִּכּוּרִים.”
“With baskets on our shoulders,
Our heads decorated,
From the edges of the country we came
We brought the first fruits.”
So it was yesterday morning in our Lesley and Leon Berman Paediatric Dialysis Unit thanks to Tikva Umarpe who came with baskets full of food, ice cream and popsicles offering our young patients a dairy feast. They also brought flowers and made stunning flower crowns and bouquets with our patients.
Ms. Rina Brami, the Head Nurse of our Paediatric Dialysis Unit shared, “Our patients need to come to Shaare Zedek several times a week for treatment. The past couple of months have been especially challenging for these children. It was wonderful to celebrate with them and Tikva Umarpe today! We are very fortunate to have partners like Tikva Umarpe. Their staff is incredibly creative and gives with all their heart.”
Ms. Devorah Agassi from Tikva Umarpeh said, “Over the past couple of months our volunteers have made house visits to patients to stay in touch. It was wonderful to be back at Shaare Zedek and to celebrate with the staff and patients. Over the years we have all become one family and it was very special to be together again. We wish everyone a wonderful holiday filled with happiness!”
It was a magnificent celebration filled with treats and lots of warmth!
Special thanks to Strauss Ice Cream and Unilever for their generous donations for this special occasion.
