The Chief Commanding Officer of the IDF Homefront Command, Major General Uri Gordon, visited Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem on Wednesday for a working visit to review the hospital’s emergency response systems and protocols.
Shaare Zedek’s Director General Prof. Ofer Merin hosted the visit of the Major General which highlighted the hospital’s readiness for large scale emergencies and disasters.
During the visit, Prof. Merin described the hospital’s disaster response program and how Shaare Zedek has extensive experience dealing with mass-casualty incidents. This includes treating a large number of victims of security incidents and a long record of close partnership with the IDF.
Prof. Merin further outlined the hospital’s infrastructure in place to transform underground and sheltered spaces within the campus into treatment areas for patients in urgent care situations. This allows for medical services to continue to operate even under the threat of rocket or missile attacks.
Major General Gordon observed, “Shaare Zedek is a hospital located in the heart of the city which stands out for its professionalism both in times of war and peace. The hospital’s planning for a sheltered and underground emergency response hospital is an important and meaningful part of that service.”
