In preparation for the upcoming opening of the new innovative Radiotherapy Institute at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, the medical team continues to expand!
The newest member to Shaare Zedek’s team is Dr. Daniela Katz, an expert in Sarcoma Tumors, trained at MD Anderson in Houston, Texas, the world’s leading Cancer Center. Dr. Katz is an internationally renowned expert in her field, which is reflected in her close collaborations with corresponding Sarcoma experts abroad. Dr. Katz has about 15 years of experience in the treatment of sarcoma from the leading medical institutions in Israel and the world.
“When you think about the Oncologist’s place, unlike a pilot whose fate is shared by him and his passengers, the Oncologist does not experience what the patient experiences and they do not share a fate. Therefore, as Oncologists we need to stand by the patients and their families and treat them with maximum compassion and sensitivity. I believe that the role of the oncologist is to use all the experience, knowledge, and tools to make it easier and to achieve the best results for the patient. In my eyes, the greatest satisfaction as an oncologist is to announce good news,” said Dr. Katz when explaining her role.
Tumors of the Sarcoma type are relatively rare, and at the same time appear in every organ of the body and at any age. Each Sarcoma has its own characteristics and studies from recent years have taught us that there is no single effective treatment for all Sarcomas. In the first step after diagnosing the type of Sarcoma, the most effective treatment must be chosen. But the role of the Oncologist does not end here. Each patient responds differently to treatments. The role of the treating Oncologist is to use all their knowledge and experience, so that the treatment is given at the most effective dose and frequency for the type of Sarcoma and later, when the CT and MRI results arrive, not to hesitate and continue to change the treatments with the goal of achieving the best results. Hence, the importance that the treatment will be done by a multidisciplinary team that includes an experienced oOcologist who treats Sarcoma patients as a routine together with a team of specialists who are familiar with the disease and its treatment, including Orthopedists, Surgeons, and Radiologists.
Dr. Katz is happy and proud to strengthen our existing medical team of professionals, and add additional expertise to the complexity of Sarcoma treatment, and we are so happy to welcome her to the Shaare Zedek family.
