Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem has initiated a collaborative effort with Zanzibar, a Tanzanian Archipelago Island with a low life expectancy of 66 years, compared to Israel’s 82 years.
Recognizing the need for medical care support, Shaare Zedek staff have provided equipment and ongoing assistance to address Zanzibar’s healthcare challenges. This partnership involves bringing a medical team from Zanzibar to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem to learn about managing lung diseases, particularly related to the island’s high prevalence of respiratory issues.
Prof. Gabriel Izbicki, Director of the Pulmonary Institute at Shaare Zedek, identified the lack of essential medical equipment and knowledge about lung diseases in Zanzibar hospitals during his visit to the island.
This project aims to supply medical equipment, primarily spirometers for diagnosing lung conditions, and provide training to Zanzibar medical professionals, with the goal of improving the quality of care and extending life expectancy on the island.
By coming together and supporting each other, we can continue saving lives, delivering lives, and changing lives.
