David Tobol an 80 years old victim arrived at the Trauma Unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in a life threatening condition after being seriously injured in the stampede attack that occurred on April 24, 2023, in the Mahane Yehuda Market in Jerusalem.
After being treated, David was hospitalized for nearly two months in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), he underwent multiple surgeries, and was under comprehensive and intensive care.
Three weeks ago, saw a gradual improvement in David’s condition, where he regained consciousness. He was transferred from the ICU to the Surgical Department. On June 28, 2023, David was released from Shaare Zedek to continue rehabilitation at home.
The Director of the Trauma Unit Dr. Alon Shwartz shared, “David arrived to us in critical condition, with severe injuries and with a real threat to his life. David being 80 years old had a low chance of survival, but he had a striking recovery. A true miracle, it is inspiring to see a person like him find the strength to recover, he was joking with the doctors and came back to himself. I thank everyone who took part in his recovery.”
The Director of the ICU Prof. Philip D Levin shared, “ Seeing David happy, laughing, and talking is a sight that we only imagined. His condition when arriving at Shaare Zedek was difficult, he was ventilated and sedated for a long time. I thank all the doctors, nurses, and the entire team that fought for David’s life.”
This is the unfortunate reality for many patients that get admitted to Shaare Zedek, they arrive in critical and life-threatening condition, but our staff does everything in their power to continue saving, delivering, and changing lives.
