Passover, much like its name, is the perfect time to literally pass-over: Pass-over the wine at the Seder, pass-over to the next page in the Haggadah, and most importantly, pass-over the value of giving so this will continue to resonate from the next generation, to the next, and to the next.
As we participate in our Passover Seders, and recount our exodus from Egypt, we say the words Ha Lachma Anya, which is a passage that focuses on the one who cannot sustain their life. This emphasizes our responsibility to deepen our connection to community, and engage in social justice through charity. It is up to each of us to pass-over the power of giving to the next generation. By doing so, we are providing the ‘Wings Of Hope’ for the future, similar to Shaare Zedek’s ‘Wings Of Hope.’ The hospital recently opened its new Helmsley Cancer Center, a state-of-the-art, first-of-its-kind, facility in Israel for Cancer treatment and research, that provides a comprehensive approach to Oncology care. The exterior of the new building features a butterfly structure, symbolizing ‘Wings Of Hope.’
It is our hope that we may all merit in passing-over this Passover, and successfully transmit to the next generation all of the wisdom, beauty, and truth in the power of giving. Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem exemplifies how far giving to others can go. Each and every person who supports our Hospital With A Heart plays a key part in saving, delivering, and changing countless precious lives, each and everyday.
Our family at the Canadian Shaare Zedek Hospital Foundation wishes you a happy and healthy Passover, Chag Pesach Sameach. May we all celebrate together next year in Jerusalem, L’Shana Haba’ah B’Yerushalayim!
