Dr. Yaron Almagor, Director of Shaare Zedek Medical Center’s Interventional Cardiology Unit, recently performed a Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implant (TAVI) on man who is 100 years old. This procedure was first performed in Israel, 10 years ago, at Shaare Zedek Medical Center and our Interventional Cardiology Unit has become a Center of Excellence in this area.
The patient, a well-established inventor who is one of the founders of Israel Chemicals Ltd, also developed the formula for the production of the first biofuel in Israel as well as a sugar substitute shared, “I get my best ideas when I walk. For the past half a year a felt a significant reduction in the distances I was able to walk. When I came to Dr, Almagor, I learned that I was suffering from an obstruction of the valve transcatheter aortic valve replacement system.”
Dr. Almagor explained that this is the oldest patient treated in the unit, however he was in excellent health, “The procedure was successful and was performed without anesthesia. The transplant will improve his quality of life and will hopefully extend his life due to the improvement in the function of the heart. ”
