The staff and patients at Shaare Zedek Medical Center very much enjoyed a visit by six talented and caring artists from Artists 4 Israel. After a tour of the hospital, the artists delighted patients sharing with them artistic techniques from a variety of different genres.
Two of the artists who are illustrators brought patients cool coloring books filled with the artist’s incredible designs! Another artist, the award winning toy designer who created kidrobot, donated dozens of plastic robots with parts that can be pulled apart that can be colored and then erased. These special, soft robots, offer a wonderful medium to help young patients communicate with our various therapists and show (on the soft robot) which areas of their body are hurting them.
A fashion designer was also part of this special group. He did silk screen printing on t-shirts in various departments including the Lesley and Leon Berman Paediatric Dialysis Unit. He gave out to patients the t-shirts and donated the silk screen equipment to Shaare Zedek. The skilled graffiti artists who were part of this group customized beautiful t-shirts with patient’s names on them.
Artists 4 Israel has worked with over 5,000 artists, representing 15 countries to meet with people and create art that will be viewed by people to help and support Israel. For some of the artists, this was their first trip to Israel. One of the artists shared, “Making this sick child feel like superman is the least I can do.”
Our patients and staff were very touched by the artists’ gentle and compassionate ways as they visited with patients. Thank you Artists 4 Israel and specifically the artists who came to Shaare Zedek. We appreciate your time and the all the exciting gifts that you brought our patients! We look forward to seeing you again!
