Dr. Shmuel Weiss, Head of the Ankle and Foot Unit at Shaare Zedek Medical Center, discusses treating arthritis in the foot and hallux valgus and the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections in the Jerusalem Post’s “Rx for Readers” column which asks experts to respond to questions from newspaper’s readers.
Dr. Weiss explains that PRP injections are used to treat musculoskeletal conditions involving soft tissues. The injections are relatively safe and can potentially speed-up the healing process of damaged soft tissue, but not the joints. Dr. Weiss also discusses the use of steroids in combination with hyaluronic acid for treating arthritis of the foot.
Please read this article for more details (it is the second question posed in this column).
