Welcome to Dr. Bishnu Thapa from Nepal who came to Shaare Zedek this week to learn unique and advanced techniques for treating patients with spinal cord issues with Dr. Yair Barzilay, Head of the Spinal Surgery Unit and Dr. Harel Arzi, the head of the Pediatric Clinic for Spinal Treatment.
This past May, after a severe earthquake struck Nepal, the Israel Defense Forces set-up a field hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal. Prof. Jonathan Halevy, the Director General of Shaare Zedek Medical Center; Prof. Amos Peyser, the Head of our Orthopedics Department, and Dr. Harel Arzi, the head of the Pediatric Clinic for Spinal Treatment were part of the special medical delegation. During their time in Nepal, our doctors developed relationships with some of the local doctors which resulted in Dr. Thapa’s visit.
Dr. Arzi shared, “[Spinal surgery]… has evolved greatly in the past decade. Innovative surgical techniques including the use of advanced implants … In addition, today we use unique technologies which significantly improve the accuracy of the surgical actions, particularly the use of surgical robots to increase precision in positioning the implants in the spine.”
